Spaghetti Sauce and Superheros

Today I made spaghetti sauce. I also went to the grocery store AND did 2 loads of laundry. Dang, I would make a darn good house wife. Well, in all honesty, more like a darn good trophy wife. No? Too far? Not far enough? Okay, okay. But you have to admit, I'd make a darn good something! Although in all fairness to my Y chromosome, I also busted out the toolbox and put holes in a couple walls and did other manly things like burp and yell at my computer about the Mariners complete inability to get runners home from 3rd with less than two outs. Ok, let me stop. I'm perpetuating stereotypical gender roles here a bit too much. A bit more than I like (or believe) actually so let me just put down this here shovel before the hole I'm standing in gets too deep to dig out of. All I'm really trying to say here is, today, I was a superhero. A champion in need of celebration. My apartment challenged me to a duel and I made it look as ridiculous as Captain Hook in a high five competition.

But enough about grown men in silly costumes with suchophobia (I knew it was a good day to learn something new!), this is about my day as a superhero! Did I mention I also went on a 4 mile run? No? Oh. Well I did that too. Although I wore my underwear underneath my shorts. Still. Total superhero.

You might be thinking, "So you ran around a bit and did some errands. Sweet. I do that all the time. How exactly does that qualify you as superhero material?" Well I'm glad you hypothetically asked! I was a superhero today because I wanted to be! You see, you don't have to travel to exotic lands or have something remarkable happen to you or even save a baby from a burning building for you to be awesome. Heck, you don't even have to leave the house! (well, apartment in my case) Your day can be as good as you want it to be. It's all about your attitude. Today I folded laundry. But I didn't just fold laundry. I folded laundry to this song. See what I mean? Superhero! Folding laundry became Folding Laundry! And sometimes that's all it takes. A simple shift in perspective.

On my new bulletin board I hung up in my kitchen today (picture me flexing here) I wrote a straightforward message to myself: "Today is Awesome!" It's a simple reminder as I walk out my door to keep my head held high, a smile on my face, and the thought that today is going to be freakin' sweet! If you approach everyday like its going to be the best day of your life, chances are, something amazing will happen. Even if it's something as simple as making spaghetti sauce. Or you know, Folding Laundry!

So now its your turn. Change your perspective. Smile! Make today Awesome! And for crying out loud, go be a superhero already!

You know what bulletin board, you are right. Today IS awesome!
